Younger classes use CUBES to circle numbers, underline the question, and box the key word. Upper primary and secondary classes step up to RUCSAC or Polya's four steps: understand the problem, plan an approach, carry it out, then look back and check. Teaching the same strategy across a unit helps students transfer the skill across topics.
