center 32%Grammar gaps and too little speaking. French builds on itself. A student who never settled avoir and être in Year 7 hits a wall at the passé composé in Year 9, and again when the imperfect arrives. In a full class, each student speaks French for a minute or two a lesson. One hour one-on-one is mostly the student talking.
Talking, a grammar check, then a plan. The tutor opens in simple French at the student's level, then moves to the unit they are on at school. A few spoken answers, some written sentences and a quick run through the verbs show where the errors come from. That evening the parent app has a written report and the plan for the term.
Speaking up first, then marks. 98% of students report more confidence. In French it shows up as a student who will answer out loud instead of freezing. Marks move at the next oral or writing task. For a senior oral exam, start at least a term before it so there is time to rehearse every topic.
Top 2% of applicants. Matched to the student, not assigned.

A private French tutor at Tutero costs A$65 an hour at every year level, from a primary student learning first words to a Year 12 student preparing for the oral exam. There are no contracts and no sign-up fee, and you pay after each lesson.
The rate includes matching with a French specialist, a dedicated account manager and a written report after every lesson in the parent app.
Tutors follow the Australian Curriculum French program in primary and lower secondary, then the student's senior course in Years 11 and 12: VCE French, HSC French Beginners, Continuers and Extension, QCE French and French Extension, WACE French: Second Language, SACE French, TASC French, and IB French B or French ab initio.
Lessons cover the four skills schools assess: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Underneath sit vocabulary and grammar, including verb tenses, gender and agreement, pronouns and word order, plus the text types students must write, such as emails, articles, journal entries and speeches.
For a language, online works well, because most of what a student needs is to hear French and speak it. In a live 1-on-1 lesson the student talks for much of the hour, the tutor corrects pronunciation as it happens, and the interactive whiteboard holds the verb tables and sentences they build together.
It also widens the choice. Few suburbs have a specialist French tutor nearby, and online a student in a country town has the same choice of tutor as one in the city. 98% of students report more confidence.
After a short quiz, an account manager calls to ask about year level, the French course, whether anyone speaks French at home, and the next assessment. The tutor is chosen from the top 2% of applicants for French knowledge and a teaching style that suits the student.
A Year 7 beginner and a Year 12 Continuers student need different tutors, and matching accounts for that. If the fit is not right, changing tutor is free.
Yes. Senior French in every state includes a spoken assessment, such as the VCE oral exam, the HSC oral exam or the WACE practical exam. Tutors run practice conversations on the course topics, work on fluency and pronunciation, and help the student answer follow-up questions without a script.
For the written and listening papers they work through past questions, timed writing in the required text types, and the grammar errors that cost the most marks, such as tense choice and agreement.
Tutero's French tutors are Australian university students and graduates who studied French to a high level, alongside qualified teachers. They are selected from the top 2% of applicants and complete training and coaching before their first lesson.
The Our Tutors page shows each tutor's subjects, university and results, so you can see who teaches French before you book. Four tutors are also introduced further up this page.
Anywhere in Australia with an internet connection, in every state and territory. Lessons run on weekdays, evenings and weekends, so they can sit around school, sport and music without a drive across town.
There are pages for tutoring in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart and Canberra, and for each state's senior certificate: VCE, HSC, QCE, WACE, SACE and TCE.
Answer a few questions about the student's year level, French course and goals. An account manager then calls to talk it through and matches the student with a French tutor who suits them.
You pay after each lesson, there are no contracts, and you can stop any time.
