Grammar gaps and too little speaking. French builds on itself. A student who never settled avoir and être in 7th grade hits a wall at the passé composé in 9th grade, and again when the imperfect arrives. In a full class, each student speaks French for a minute or two a lesson. One hour one-on-one is mostly the student talking.
What does the first lesson cover?
Talking, a grammar check, then a plan. The tutor opens in simple French at the student's level, then moves to the unit they are on at school. A few spoken answers, some written sentences and a quick run through the verbs show where the errors come from. That evening the parent app has a written report and the plan for the semester.
When will we see a difference?
Speaking up first, then grades. 98% of students report more confidence. In French it shows up as a student who will answer out loud instead of freezing. Grades move at the next speaking or writing task. For an AP or IB oral, start at least a semester before it so there is time to rehearse every topic.

How much does a French tutor cost?

What does French tutoring cover in Grades K to 12?
Tutors follow the student's school French program and their state's world language standards, from first words in elementary school through French I to IV in high school, AP French Language and Culture, and IB French B or ab initio.
Lessons cover the four skills schools assess: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Underneath sit vocabulary and grammar, including verb tenses, gender and agreement, pronouns and word order, plus the text types students must write, such as emails, articles, journal entries and speeches.
Is an online French tutor as good as face to face?
For a language, online works well, because most of what a student needs is to hear French and speak it. In a live 1-on-1 lesson the student talks for much of the hour, the tutor corrects pronunciation as it happens, and the interactive whiteboard holds the verb tables and sentences they build together.
It also widens the choice. Few suburbs have a specialist French tutor nearby, and online a student in a country town has the same choice of tutor as one in the city. 98% of students report more confidence.

For the written and listening papers they work through past questions, timed writing in the required text types, and the grammar errors that cost the most points, such as tense choice and agreement.
