Lessons with Tutero happen live online, so families in every part of the city get the same choice of tutors and the same after-school, evening and weekend times. Most Chicago parents come to us for one of three things: a math tutor for a child who has fallen behind, a reading tutor for a younger child who is losing confidence, or extra help in an IB or Spanish class.
For students at Chicago Public Schools, we start with a short skills check and the work your child brings home. The tutor builds the plan from those assignments, so lessons match what the teacher is covering this week. When the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) comes up in spring, we can add practice in the same reading and math skills it measures. You read a short report after every lesson in the parent app, and your account manager checks in each term.
Schools in Chicago teach to the Illinois Learning Standards. Every Tutero lesson follows these standards and your child's own school or homeschool work, so practice for the state tests below is built into the regular week.
Chicago Public Schools runs over 600 elementary and high schools. Among them are eleven selective enrollment high schools designed for the city's most advanced students, with mainly honors and Advanced Placement courses, and Walter Payton College Prep is ranked first in Chicago and in Illinois. Across the city, about 130 public high schools take part in a choice system, where students test or apply to get in. So middle school grades and test results carry real weight for Chicago families.
Illinois students take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness. A Tutero tutor plans from your child's current assignments and the Illinois standards, then adds IAR practice when it helps. For older students, the target might be an AP course or an application to a selective school. With the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Loyola University Chicago, DePaul University and the University of Illinois Chicago all close by, plenty of Chicago teens are planning for college early, and the same tutor can support that too.
Chicago is split into the Loop and the North, South and West Sides. Sociologists at the University of Chicago divided the city into what are now 77 community areas, and those break down again into more than 200 informally defined neighborhoods. A student in a North Side high-rise near the lakefront and a student on the South Side, the city's largest section, get the same lesson times and the same tutors, because every lesson is live online. There is no trip across Chicago after school and no parking to find. Families in other Midwest cities, such as Milwaukee or Peoria, can book in exactly the same way, with weekday, evening and weekend times.
