Emma was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyscalculia when she was young, and more recently with ADHD. Her mom, Jill, chose Tutero because she read that we were equipped to support children with ADHD. Emma works with the same teacher, Lori, every week. Over time they have built a real bond: with Lori, Emma is focused, gets the encouragement she needs, and never asks to skip a lesson. Lori is part of Emma’s week, not a quick fix, and Jill sees the results.
“She really likes Lori, they’ve formed a bond.”
Jill, Emma’s mom
“She never says she doesn’t want tutoring, she always wants to.”

Jill, mom of Emma · FloridaOur Florida team includes a former special education teacher and case manager of 14 years and a former school principal. They walk you through EMA, match your child with the right teacher and check in every term. Here they are at Step Up for Students’ conference in Orlando.

If it is UA or PEP, yes. Families on UA or PEP pay $0 out of pocket, with nothing to pay upfront. Not sure which scholarship your child has? It is shown at the top of their EMA account.
Their teacher gets to know them. One hour, 1-on-1, working on what your child is learning right now. The teacher sees what is solid and where the gaps are, with any IEP goals in mind. Afterwards you get a written report and a plan in the parent app.
No. You tell us once. Share the IEP on your first call and its goals and accommodations go into the plan before lesson one. Your child keeps the same teacher every week, so nobody has to start over.
Straight answers from 310,000+ lessons.

Usually a gap, not ability. Most subjects build on themselves: a gap in fractions in 5th grade becomes an algebra problem in 8th grade. Most students who say they hate a subject are missing two or three specific ideas. The first lesson finds them.
A diagnosis, then a plan. One hour, 1-on-1, working through what your child is learning right now. The tutor watches how they approach a problem and maps what is solid and what is not. Afterwards a written report and a plan land in the parent app.
Confidence first, grades next. Most parents see confidence change first, then grades at the next test or report card. One lesson a week through the semester, with a check-in from your account manager.

Can a scholarship cover tutoring in Gainesville, FL?
Yes, for many Gainesville families. Tutero lessons are scholarship-funded, with nothing out of pocket. If your child has a Step Up for Students UA or PEP scholarship, the scholarship pays for every lesson. Lessons are billed through EMA rather than to you. Without a scholarship, our team gives you one clear rate for every grade, with no contracts.
Can my child get a math teacher for Algebra 1?
Yes. A certified teacher works through your child's actual Algebra 1 assignments, fills the gaps the skills check turns up, and practices the kinds of questions on the end-of-year exam. Younger students get the same approach for fractions, multiplication and word problems on the FAST math test, one step at a time.
Do you offer reading help for elementary students?
Yes, and it starts from where your child really is: sounding out words, reading smoothly, or understanding what they just read. The teacher uses short texts and your child's school books. You get a written report after every lesson in the parent app, so you can see progress well before the next report card arrives.
When should a Gainesville student start SAT prep?
Tenth grade or early eleventh grade works well, a few months before the first test date. Gainesville teens begin with a practice section to find weak spots in math or in reading and writing, and lessons then focus there. If core math is still shaky, the teacher fixes that first, since it drives much of the math score.
Does Step Up for Students cover every grade?
Yes, a Step Up for Students UA or PEP scholarship can cover lessons from kindergarten through 12th grade. UA is for students with unique abilities, and PEP is for homeschool students. FES-EO and FTC accounts are mostly used for private school tuition, so our education specialist can check what your account allows before you book.
What if the teacher isn't the right fit?
Tell your education specialist and they will find a better match. Fit matters, especially for a child who has had a rough year in a subject. Tell your education specialist what isn't working and they'll match your child with another certified teacher. The plan and past lesson reports carry over, so no progress is lost in the switch.
Gainesville is best known for the University of Florida, but most of the parents we hear from here have a younger student and a more everyday worry: a math grade that slipped, or a reader who stalls on longer chapters. Alachua County Public Schools checks both on Florida's state tests (FAST) each year, and high schoolers also sit end-of-year exams like Algebra 1.
Your child's teacher starts with a short skills check, then builds lessons from the homework and tests they already bring home. Older students can add SAT practice once their classwork is steady. Because lessons are online, a family in the county seat and a family out in the wider Gainesville area have the same choice of certified teachers, with after-school, evening and weekend times. Homeschool families get the same plan, built around their own curriculum.
Schools in Gainesville teach to the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Standards. Every Tutero lesson follows these standards and your child's own school or homeschool work, so practice for the state tests below is built into the regular week.
Public schools in Gainesville are run by Alachua County Public Schools. Middle schools such as Fort Clarke, Kanapaha, Lincoln and Westwood cover grades 6 to 8, and high schoolers attend Buchholz, Eastside, Gainesville High or Loften. P. K. Yonge Developmental Research School is another local option. Florida checks reading and math with its FAST tests, and many high school courses close with a state exam.
Gainesville is also a college town, with the University of Florida and Santa Fe College both here. Lessons with a Tutero teacher follow your child's classwork and Florida's standards, which builds toward FAST and end-of-course exams without extra busywork. Families with a UA or PEP scholarship from Step Up for Students can use it to cover lessons.
Gainesville's east side and west side can feel like different towns, and large planned communities sit just west of the city limits. Lessons are live online, so a student near downtown, on the east side, or out in the planned communities west of Gainesville has the same choice of teachers. Weekday afternoons, evenings and weekends all work, and nobody drives across town. Families in Ocala, Lake City and Jacksonville use Tutero the same way.
