Private tutoring on the Central Coast

Lessons start at A$65 per hour. There is no contract behind the arrangement, no sign-up fee, and no block of lessons to buy in advance. An invoice is raised once a lesson has been taught, so what you pay always matches what was actually delivered. Your account manager confirms the rate with you before a tutor is booked. You can pause or stop whenever you like, which matters on the Coast where sport, shift rosters and school holidays keep moving the week around, and nothing is charged while lessons are paused.

Yes. Primary students work on reading, writing and number. Across Years 7 to 10 the usual requests are maths, English and science, with humanities and languages available as well. Senior students take the course they are enrolled in: Mathematics Standard or Advanced, English Standard or Advanced, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Economics and others. A student can hold two tutors in different subjects if the load calls for it. The match is made to the specific course rather than the broad subject, because a Year 9 science tutor and a Year 12 Chemistry tutor are not doing the same job.

Geography, mostly. The Central Coast reaches from the Woy Woy Peninsula up past Erina, Tuggerah and Wyong to the northern lakes, so a centre that suits a family at Umina Beach is a long evening for a family at The Entrance. Online removes the drive on both sides. Lessons run over video on a whiteboard both people can write on, which means the tutor and the student write on the same page. It also widens the choice: a student at Kariong draws on the same pool of tutors as a student at Terrigal, and each is matched on the NSW course in front of them, not the postcode.

Students from schools such as Central Coast Grammar School at Erina Heights, Gosford High School, St Joseph's Catholic College at East Gosford and Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College learn with Tutero, and every one of them works from NSW syllabuses, even though the shape differs. Gosford High is the Coast's only fully selective high school. Central Coast Grammar runs Kindergarten to Year 12 at Erina Heights. A tutor who has taken a student through Stage 4 carries the history: which topics had to be rebuilt, which habits slip under pressure, how the student works when an assessment is close. Where that tutor can carry the student into the senior years, they do, and that is usually where it pays off most, because HSC courses reward steady accumulation rather than a rescue at the end. If a student changes direction and needs a specialist, we say so and find one. You are never held to a match that has stopped working.
