FAQ

Is tutoring good for children with special needs?
plusminus

Yes, when it is one-on-one, consistent and adjusted to your child. A classroom has one teacher for 25 children and a pace set by the group. A Tutero lesson has one patient tutor, a pace set by your child, and the same routine every week, so the skills school is racing past get taught properly and practised until they stick.

Can I use NDIS funding for tutoring?
plusminus

Sometimes. The NDIS does not fund mainstream academic tutoring as a line item, but self-managed and plan-managed participants can often use Capacity Building funding (Improved Daily Living or Improved Learning) for tutoring-style support when it is tied to a goal in the plan, such as literacy, numeracy or study independence. Tutero provides the itemised invoices your plan manager needs. Check with your support coordinator or plan manager first, and read our NDIS tutoring guide for the wording that helps.

Do you tutor children with autism?
plusminus

Yes. Tutors keep lessons predictable: the same structure each week, clear and literal instructions, a warning before each change of task, and your child's interests used as a way in. Camera on or off, chat box or voice, shorter blocks with breaks: we set the lesson up the way your child is most comfortable, and adjust as we learn what works.

Do your tutors have experience with additional needs?
plusminus

We match on it. Your learning advisor asks about your child's diagnosis, supports and what has worked before, then hand-picks a tutor from Australia's top 2% who has supported students with similar needs, many of them qualified teachers or education students. Your child keeps that same tutor every week, and if the match is not right we change tutors at no charge.

Can tutoring follow my child's Individual Learning Plan?
plusminus

Yes. Share your child's Individual Learning Plan, school adjustments or therapy goals with your learning advisor and the tutor will work to them, using the same strategies your child already knows from school. Many families share the tutor's lesson notes back with the school so everyone is pulling in the same direction.

Do we need a diagnosis to start?
plusminus

No. Many families come to Tutero while they are waiting for an assessment, or because their child is struggling without a formal diagnosis. Tell us what you see at home and at school and we will match accordingly.

How much does special needs tutoring cost with Tutero?
plusminus

Tutero's 1-on-1 special needs tutoring starts from A$65 per hour, and you only pay after each lesson has happened. There are no contracts, no upfront payments and no cancellation fees, your child's first lesson is covered by a money-back guarantee, and we can invoice in the format NDIS plan managers require.

What if my child cannot sit through a full lesson?
plusminus

Tell us. Tutors break lessons into short tasks with breaks built in, use timers and movement where they help, and let your child know what is coming next. Many students who could not manage ten minutes at school settle into a full lesson within a few weeks, because the routine is the same and the pressure is off.

Which learning differences and needs do you support?
plusminus

Most of them. Tutors support students with ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, autism, NDIS plans and homeschool programs, along with dysgraphia, language and processing differences, intellectual disability and anxiety about school. If your child's needs are not listed, ask: your learning advisor will tell you honestly whether we can help.

How do we get started?
plusminus

Getting started is simple. Submit your request and a learning advisor will call you, usually the same day, to understand your child, their supports and what has worked before, then hand-pick a tutor with the patience and experience to suit. The first lesson is covered by our money-back guarantee, so there is no risk in trying.
