How does homeschool tutoring work in North Carolina?
North Carolina has one of the largest homeschool communities in the country, and Tutero is built to slot into the way your family already teaches. After your first call, your education specialist hand-picks a certified tutor who matches your child's grade level, subjects, learning style and your homeschool approach. Lessons happen online from home, usually weekly, and follow the NC Standard Course of Study so your child's work with us reinforces what the state expects. Whether you use a structured curriculum like Abeka, Sonlight or BJU, a mastery program like Saxon or Singapore Math, or a relaxed eclectic approach, your tutor plans around your choices rather than replacing them. You stay in charge of the homeschool — we provide the subject-matter expertise where it helps most.

Can I use the NC Opportunity Scholarship to pay for tutoring?
The North Carolina Opportunity Scholarship was recently expanded so every K-12 family in the state can apply, regardless of income, and the funds can cover a range of private and educational expenses. Many homeschool and private-school families use it toward curriculum, tuition and learning support. If you are receiving the Opportunity Scholarship, talk to your education specialist on your first call with Tutero — we will walk you through how families typically use scholarship funds toward 1-on-1 tutoring and what documentation tends to be required. Eligibility, approved uses and disbursement timing are set by the state, so we always point families to the NC State Education Assistance Authority for the official rules before you commit.
What are the homeschool requirements in North Carolina?
To homeschool in North Carolina, you file a Notice of Intent with the Division of Non-Public Education (DNPE) once your oldest child reaches age 7. The parent providing instruction needs at least a high school diploma or equivalent. You keep an attendance record and immunisation records, operate on a regular schedule for at least nine months of the year, and administer a nationally standardised achievement test annually to every student age 7 and older. Tutero does not replace any of these requirements, but our tutors can help your child prepare for the annual test, and your account manager keeps written progress notes after every lesson that many parents file alongside their own records.
What subjects and grade levels does Tutero cover for North Carolina families?
We cover Kindergarten through Grade 12 across math, reading and language arts, science, writing, social studies, and high school subjects including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Biology and US History. Tutoring is aligned to the NC Standard Course of Study, which is what EOG (Grades 3-8) and EOC (high school) tests are written against, so the work your child does with us tracks directly to how they will be assessed. We also support SAT, ACT and AP exam prep for high schoolers, and reading-fluency and early-numeracy support for younger learners. If your homeschool already uses a specific program, your tutor will plan lessons that fit it rather than fighting it.
How much does homeschool tutoring with Tutero cost in North Carolina?
Tutoring with Tutero starts from US$45/hr, and that rate is the same across every grade level — there is no senior or high-school premium. You only pay for the lessons you take. There is no sign-up fee, no contract and no minimum commitment, so you can pause, switch tutors or stop any time. Billing happens after each lesson, so you never pay for sessions in advance. If your family is using the NC Opportunity Scholarship or another funding source toward education expenses, mention that on your first call and your education specialist will explain how families typically apply it.
How quickly can my child start with a Tutero tutor in North Carolina?
Most North Carolina families are matched within 24 hours of their first call. We start by understanding your child — their grade level, the subjects you want to focus on, any diagnosed learning needs, the times of day they do their best work, and your goals for the homeschool year. Your education specialist then hand-picks a certified tutor who fits your child specifically. You meet the tutor before the first paid lesson, and only continue if it feels right. Lessons happen online, so whether you are in Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Greensboro, Asheville, Wilmington or anywhere else in North Carolina, your child learns from home on a schedule that works for your family.
