What is the Family Empowerment Scholarship?
Florida’s Family Empowerment Scholarship (FES) opens the door to personalized education for thousands of K-12 students across the state. Designed to expand school choice, the FES helps families access private school tuition, homeschooling support, and tutoring services. It includes two tracks—Education Options (EO) for general learners and Unique Abilities (UA) for students with special educational needs. Both tracks allow families to use state-provided funds to cover approved educational expenses, including one-on-one tutoring. At Tutero, we provide flexible, online tutoring that aligns with Florida’s academic standards and is fully eligible for FES funding. Whether your child needs help catching up, staying on track, or getting ahead, we offer tailored support that meets their goals and your family's educational vision.

Who Qualifies and How to Apply the Scholarship
The Family Empowerment Scholarship supports a wide range of learners. The Education Options track is typically income-based, while the Unique Abilities track supports students with documented special needs like autism, dyslexia, or ADHD. Once approved through Step Up For Students, families receive either direct private school funding or an education savings account (ESA) that can be used on tutoring, curriculum, and more. Tutero is an approved provider, making it easy to apply FES funds toward our services. We guide families through setup, help with ESA navigation, and offer invoices and session records that meet all compliance requirements. Our goal is simple: ensure your child receives high-quality, hassle-free academic support.

We match each learner with a qualified tutor who builds a custom learning plan based on subject needs, learning style, and educational goals. All sessions are live, one-on-one, and designed to build confidence as well as content knowledge. Tutero’s tutoring programs are built around Florida’s B.E.S.T. (Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking) Standards, ensuring every session supports grade-level expectations. From phonics and reading comprehension in early elementary years to algebra and geometry in high school, our instruction is curriculum-aligned and assessment-ready. We also provide preparation for the FAST (Florida Assessment of Student Thinking) and other statewide exams. Parents can trust that our tutoring complements what students are learning in school—or provides the structure homeschoolers need to meet standards. With Tutero, FES students receive support that’s academically rigorous, standards-driven, and directly relevant to Florida classrooms.

It depends on the student's needs and goals. Most families start with one or two sessions per week, which provides enough consistency to build skills without overwhelming the student's schedule. Students preparing for assessments or working to close significant gaps may benefit from three sessions per week for a defined period. Your tutor can recommend a frequency based on your child's specific situation.
Yes. Each student is matched individually based on their subject needs, grade level, and learning profile. If two siblings need tutoring, they each get their own tutor and their own session time. Families can coordinate scheduling so sessions happen back-to-back on the same day if that is more convenient. Each student's progress is tracked and reported separately.
Tutero tutors hold relevant degrees or teaching credentials and are selected based on subject expertise, teaching experience, and ability to connect with students. Many hold Florida educator certifications or have direct experience working in Florida schools. For FES-UA students, tutors are also evaluated on their ability to work with diverse learning needs and adapt instruction accordingly.
Yes. Tutero allows rescheduling with reasonable notice, typically 24 hours before the session. Scholarship funds are only applied when a session takes place, so cancelling a session does not result in a charge to the family's ESA. Our team works with families to find alternative times when conflicts arise so the student stays on track.
For FES-UA families, tutoring is often one part of a broader support plan that includes speech therapy, occupational therapy, or behavioral services. Tutero sessions can be scheduled around those appointments and can reinforce skills being developed in therapy. If a parent shares relevant details from their child's IEP or therapy goals, the tutor can incorporate complementary strategies into academic sessions.
Yes. Tutero provides session-by-session reports and periodic progress summaries that parents can share with teachers, therapists, or school administrators. These reports document what was covered, the student's performance, and areas of growth. For families who need formal documentation for their scholarship or for school records, Tutero can provide structured updates on request.
