The SEC is first sat in 2027 and replaces the O-Level and N-Level. Subjects are taken at G1, G2 or G3. Students in Sec 4 in 2026 still sit the O-Levels.
Carefully selected, Singapore-based tutors who are ID-verified and have signed a declaration. They know the MOE syllabus and the national exam formats, and guide students through school tests, prelims and final exams.

How the national exams are graded, the dates in upper secondary and what to weigh when choosing subjects.
O-Level subjects are set by SEAB with Cambridge and graded A1 to F9. For JC entry, results combine into an L1R5 aggregate: English plus five relevant subjects, each scored from 1 for A1 to 9 for F9. Lower is better. Polytechnic courses use ELR2B2, built the same way from fewer subjects.
Students in Sec 4 in 2026 are the last to sit the O-Level. The SEC, first sat in 2027, has its own grading at G1, G2 and G3, so families in that cohort should check MOE’s latest guidance on how results count for admission.
Upper secondary follows the MOE calendar, January to November. In the exam year SEAB publishes the timetable, and the national exam is spread over several months rather than one week at the end. Schools add their own prelims before the written papers.
Sec 3 combinations are allocated on Sec 2 results and the places each school offers, so the Sec 2 end-of-year exam matters. The big decisions are Additional Mathematics, pure or combined sciences, and which humanities elective sits alongside Social Studies.
What to weigh: pure sciences and Additional Mathematics keep the most JC and polytechnic options open, but take more time each week. Check that the combination gives five relevant subjects for L1R5 with room to spare, so one weak paper does not sink the aggregate.
Sec 3 is the best time to start. Additional Mathematics and pure sciences arrive together, and the gap between a steady student and a struggling one opens within the first term. Starting in Sec 4 still works, but there are fewer weeks before prelims to rebuild.
From the June holidays of the exam year, a good weekly rhythm is one timed paper per subject in rotation, marked against the mark scheme, plus a redo list of every lost mark. After prelims, use the weeks before the written papers to fix the two or three topics that cost the most marks.
Your child keeps the same tutor every week, and lessons start from their own school work. In Sec 3 that means new content and good habits. In the exam year it shifts to timed papers, prelim review and exam technique.
What SEC and O-Level students work on at each stage, and how a tutor helps.
Sec 3 brings new subject combinations, often Additional Mathematics and pure or combined sciences. Students in Sec 3 in 2026 will sit the new SEC in 2027.
