Elena came to Tutero about a year and a half ago, when she felt her English was really terrible. She was matched with her tutor Jenna, and they share a Google Doc so Jenna can help her plan and edit her essays. Because the lessons are 1-to-1, she asks as many questions as she needs, and Jenna moves lessons when her schedule changes. In November 2025, as she was starting her final year of school, she heard she was receiving an award and a top three place in English.

center 32%Usually the writing, not the reading. Many students understand the novel and still lose marks, because they cannot turn what they know into a clear argument with evidence. Others read fluently but miss the inference questions. The tutor starts with a recent piece of marked school work to see which problem it is.
A real school task, read closely. The tutor works from something the student already has: a class novel, a practice prompt or an essay that came back with comments. They write a paragraph together on the whiteboard, and the tutor notes where the argument, the evidence or the expression slips. A written report and a plan follow in the parent app.
At the next marked piece of writing. English is assessed through compositions, comprehension and orals, so progress shows when the next one is handed back. Most families book a weekly lesson so drafts get worked on before they are due. The account manager reviews progress each term.

Find an English tutor
Private 1-to-1 English tuition with Tutero is from S$65 an hour at every level, from a P1 student learning to read to a JC2 student writing General Paper essays. There is no sign-up fee and no contract, and you pay after each lesson rather than up front.
The hourly rate covers matching with a specialist English tutor, a dedicated account manager and a written report after every lesson in the parent app. You pay after each lesson, there are no contracts, and you can stop any time.
In primary school, English tuition covers phonics, reading fluency and comprehension, spelling, grammar, composition and situational writing, building to PSLE English in P6. From Sec 1 to Sec 4 it moves to argumentative and expository writing, visual text comprehension, summary, oral communication and SEC and O-Level English.
At JC the tutor works to the student's own course: H1 General Paper, H2 Literature in English or H2 English Language and Linguistics at A-Level, or IB English A for students in IB schools.
Online English lessons with Tutero are live and 1-to-1. The student's paragraph, essay or story goes up on the interactive whiteboard, and the tutor and student work through it line by line: the argument, the choice of evidence and the expression. The student keeps the same tutor each week, so feedback builds from one draft to the next.
Parents usually notice confidence before marks. Marks tend to follow once the student has taken that feedback into their next piece of assessed writing.
After a short quiz, an account manager calls to learn your child's level, school, upcoming assessments and how they like to learn. Tutero then chooses a carefully selected English tutor, matched on the course they are studying and on personality.
The first lesson shows the tutor where your child's reading and writing stand and sets goals for the term. If the fit is not right, changing tutors is free.
Yes. Tutors help students plan and draft compositions, situational writing, essays and oral responses for school assessment, working from the marking criteria the school has set. They also prepare students for PSLE English, SEC and O-Level English and A-Level General Paper.
Exam preparation uses timed practice on past papers, feedback on structure and on how evidence is chosen and analysed, and a revision plan for the weeks before the exam, including the texts and topics still to be revised.
Tutero's English tutors are carefully selected and matched to each student by subject and personality. Each tutor's profile shows their specialism, university and results, so you can see who will be working with your child before lessons begin.
Some of the tutors are introduced on this page. The full team is on the Our Tutors page, and your account manager can tell you more about the tutor chosen for your child before the first lesson.
Anywhere in Singapore with an internet connection. Every student has the same choice of English tutors, wherever they live, with lessons on weekdays, evenings and weekends.
There are dedicated pages for PSLE, SEC and O-Level, A-Level, IP, IGCSE and IB tuition.
Submit a request with your child's level and what they need help with, whether that is reading, composition or General Paper. The team will call, then match your child with an English tutor for their course and goals.
You pay after each lesson, there are no contracts, and you can stop any time. You can book lessons weekly or pause over the holidays.
