  • Why do they struggle in economics?

Knowing it is not the same as using it. Most students can define inflation. Marks go when they have to use it: pulling figures from case study data, drawing the right diagram, then tracing how a change in the exchange rate reaches spending, jobs and prices. Case study answers and essays reward that chain of reasoning, and a full class rarely practises it out loud.

  • What happens in the first lesson?

Their current unit, on the whiteboard. The tutor starts with whatever the class is studying this week, such as market failure or MAS exchange rate policy. The student explains it and sketches the diagram, then answers a past case study question under time. That evening the parent app has a report on what held up, what did not, and the plan to the exam.

  • When do the marks move?

At the next school task, usually. Marks show up at the next piece of school assessment, which in JC economics might be a block test, a case study or an essay. Lessons run weekly through the term, and the account manager reviews progress with you at the end of it.

Find an economics tutor

How much does an economics tutor cost?

Private 1-to-1 economics tuition with Tutero costs from S$65 an hour, and the rate is the same in Sec 3 as in JC2. There is no contract and no sign-up fee, and you pay after each lesson rather than for a term in advance.

The hourly rate includes matching with a tutor who knows the student's course, a dedicated account manager and a written report after every lesson in the parent app.

What does an economics tutor cover in JC?

Tutors work to the student's own course: H1 or H2 Economics at A-Level, IB Economics at SL and HL, Cambridge IGCSE Economics, or economics in the Integrated Programme.

Lessons cover demand and supply, elasticity, market failure and government intervention, the goals of growth, low inflation and full employment, fiscal policy, MAS and exchange rate policy, and international trade. Students also practise data analysis, case study answers and essays.

Is online economics tuition effective?

Each lesson is one student and one tutor, live, on an interactive whiteboard where they can draw and annotate demand and supply or AD and AS diagrams together. The student keeps the same tutor each week, so the tutor knows which topic is coming up and how the next block test or school task will be marked.

The first change most parents notice is confidence. Marks follow at the next school assessment, because every lesson is planned around the student's own course and task dates.

How is an economics tutor matched to a student?

After a short quiz, an account manager calls to ask about the student's level, school, course, upcoming assessments and how they like to learn. The tutor is then carefully selected for that course and for personality fit.

In the first lesson the tutor works through the current unit, finds where marks are being lost and sets goals for the term. If the match is not right, a new tutor is free.

How does a tutor help with A-Level Economics essays and case studies?

Tutors break an essay or extended response into steps the student can repeat under time: answer the question directly, define the terms, use the stimulus data, explain each link in the argument and finish with a judgement. The student writes, the tutor marks it against the task's criteria, and the next attempt fixes one thing at a time.

Closer to prelims and the final exam, lessons move to past papers, timed case study and essay practice, and a revision plan.

Who are Tutero's economics tutors?

Tutero's economics tutors are carefully selected, and each student is matched with a tutor who knows their particular course, such as H2 Economics, IGCSE Economics or IB Economics at HL. Four tutors are introduced on this page. The full team is on the Our Tutors page, with each tutor's subjects, university and background.

Where is Tutero's economics tuition available?

Anywhere in Singapore with an internet connection. Students can choose from the same economics tutors wherever they live, with lessons on weekdays, evenings and weekends.

There are dedicated pages for A-Level, IP, IGCSE and IB tuition.

How do we get started?

Submit a request with the student's level and course, and the team will match them with an economics tutor. Most families start with one lesson a week, timed around school assessment dates. You pay after each lesson, there are no contracts, and you can stop any time.
