Is Homeschool Tutoring Covered by the New Hampshire Education Freedom Account?
Yes. New Hampshire's Education Freedom Account (EFA) program — now open to families at all income levels — provides around $5,200 per eligible student each year, and tutoring is one of the approved uses of those funds. Families can use their EFA to pay for 1-on-1 tutoring in maths, science, English, social studies, and more, alongside curriculum, online courses, and required testing or evaluation fees.
Tutero works with EFA families across New Hampshire. We provide the itemized invoices, session records, and tutor qualifications that the Children's Scholarship Fund New Hampshire and the EFA portal expect when you submit a reimbursement or direct-pay request. If you are mid-way through your EFA year and trying to put unused funds to good use before the next quarter, a regular tutoring schedule is one of the simplest, highest-impact ways to do it.

How Does Tutero Match a Tutor to a New Hampshire Homeschool Student?
Every homeschool is different, so the first conversation is about your child — their grade level, the curriculum you are using (Oak Meadow, Sonlight, Saxon, BJU, secular eclectic, unit-study, classical, unschool-leaning), and what you actually need help with. That might be a parent who is confident in language arts but wants a specialist for algebra. It might be a 7th grader who needs structure for daily writing. It might be a high schooler preparing for the SAT or building a transcript for college admissions.
From there we hand-match a tutor whose subject expertise, teaching style, and availability fit. Most families get matched within 24 hours, and your first lesson is usually the same week. If the match is not right, we re-match — no contracts, no commitment to a set number of lessons.
What Are the Notification and Evaluation Requirements for Homeschooling in New Hampshire?
Under RSA 193-A, New Hampshire parents must file a Letter of Intent to homeschool within five business days of starting, with one of three participating agencies: the local school district superintendent, the New Hampshire Department of Education Commissioner, or a non-public school principal. You keep a portfolio of your child's work — samples, reading lists, and records of subjects covered — across the year.
At the end of each school year, an annual evaluation is required. You can choose from a nationally normed standardized test (such as the Iowa, Stanford, or CAT), a portfolio review by a certified New Hampshire teacher, or another method agreed with your participating agency. Tutero tutors are familiar with these requirements and can help your child prepare for whichever evaluation route you choose, and they can produce session notes that strengthen a portfolio review.
Which New Hampshire Cities and Towns Does Tutero Serve?
Tutero operates entirely online, so families anywhere in New Hampshire can work with one of our tutors. That includes the larger population centers — Manchester, Nashua, Concord, Dover, Portsmouth, Rochester, Keene, Salem, Derry, and Merrimack — and smaller communities across the White Mountains, Lakes Region, Seacoast, Monadnock, and Upper Valley.
Online tutoring removes the travel barrier that a lot of NH homeschool families run into, especially in winter or in towns where in-person specialist tutors are scarce. Lessons happen at a time that fits around co-op days, sports, music, fieldwork, and the rest of your homeschool week.
Which Subjects and Grade Levels Does Tutero Cover for NH Homeschoolers?
Tutero supports New Hampshire homeschool students from elementary grades through high school. Core subjects include reading, writing, grammar, math (from foundational arithmetic through Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Statistics), science (general science, biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science), and history and social studies.
We also support test preparation that matters for college-bound homeschoolers, including the SAT, ACT, AP exams, and PSAT, plus subject-specific support for students preparing transcripts for selective colleges. If your child has an IEP from a prior public school placement or a known learning difference such as dyslexia, ADHD, or dyscalculia, let us know up front so we can match a tutor with the right experience.
How Much Does Homeschool Tutoring Cost in New Hampshire?
Tutero starts at US$45 per hour for 1-on-1 online homeschool tutoring in New Hampshire — the same rate across every grade level and subject, with no premium for high school or test prep. You pay after each lesson, there are no contracts, and there is no sign-up fee.
For families using the New Hampshire Education Freedom Account, tutoring is an approved use of EFA funds, and Tutero provides the documentation needed for direct-pay or reimbursement through the EFA portal. Many families combine EFA funds with personal funds to build a consistent weekly schedule across the school year.
