How does homeschooling work in South Carolina?
South Carolina families can homeschool under one of three legal routes. Option 1 is registering with your local public school district. Option 2 is joining the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools (SCAIHS). Option 3 is enrolling with a state-approved accountability association, which is the route most South Carolina homeschool families now use. All three routes require 180 days of instruction per year and coverage of the core subjects: reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies. Parents also keep a record of the work covered, samples of student work and a semi-annual progress report. Tutero supports families on any of the three routes.
