How does homeschooling work in South Carolina?
South Carolina families can homeschool under one of three legal routes. Option 1 is registering with your local public school district. Option 2 is joining the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools (SCAIHS). Option 3 is enrolling with a state-approved accountability association, which is the route most South Carolina homeschool families now use. All three routes require 180 days of instruction per year and coverage of the core subjects: reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies. Parents also keep a record of the work covered, samples of student work and a semi-annual progress report. Tutero supports families on any of the three routes. We help your child stay on pace with the SC College and Career-Ready Standards so the records and progress reports you submit reflect real learning.

How does Tutero match my child with a homeschool tutor?
Tell us your child's grade, the subjects you want covered, your homeschool route (district, SCAIHS or accountability association) and the times that suit your week. We match your child with a tutor within 24 hours, normally a teacher or graduate with experience in your child's grade band and subject. The first lesson runs at the regular rate of US$45 per hour. There are no contracts, no sign-up fees and you only pay after the lesson has happened. If the tutor is not the right fit we re-match at no cost. Most South Carolina families settle into a weekly rhythm of one or two lessons per subject, scheduled around their co-op days, library days and the rest of their homeschool week.
Which subjects can Tutero tutors cover for South Carolina homeschoolers?
Tutero covers the full K-12 range. For elementary grades we focus on early reading, phonics, writing and math fluency. For middle school we cover math (pre-algebra through algebra 1), English language arts, science and social studies, with strong support for the transition from elementary into the harder middle grades. For high school we cover algebra 2, geometry, biology, chemistry, US history, English literature, world languages and SAT and ACT preparation. Lessons are mapped against the SC College and Career-Ready Standards so your child progresses against the same benchmarks public school students do, which makes the semi-annual progress report straightforward for parents on the district and SCAIHS routes.
Where in South Carolina do Tutero tutors work?
Tutero is online, so families anywhere in South Carolina can book lessons. Most of our South Carolina homeschoolers are in Charleston, Mount Pleasant and the wider Lowcountry, Columbia and the Midlands, and Greenville and the Upstate. Online lessons mean rural families outside the major metros get the same access to specialist subject tutors as families in the cities, and there is no driving time eating into your homeschool day. Sessions run in a shared online classroom with video, voice and a digital whiteboard, so your child can show working and the tutor can mark it in real time.
How much does homeschool tutoring with Tutero cost in South Carolina?
Tutero starts from US$45 per hour for South Carolina homeschool families. This is the same rate for every grade from kindergarten through grade 12. There is no premium for high school, SAT prep or AP subjects. You pay after each lesson has happened, there are no contracts and no sign-up fees, and you can pause or change cadence whenever your homeschool schedule needs it. For comparison, in-home homeschool tutors across South Carolina typically charge between US$35 and US$55 per hour for general subjects and more for specialist high school subjects, and most ask for a multi-lesson commitment up front. The flexibility matters when your homeschool calendar moves around co-op, field trips and family travel.
Can I use South Carolina's Education Scholarship Trust Fund (ESTF) for tutoring?
South Carolina's Education Scholarship Trust Fund (ESTF) is the state's education savings account programme, phasing in toward universal eligibility for South Carolina families. Approved uses include tuition at participating schools, curriculum, instructional materials and tutoring services from approved providers. Eligibility, funding amounts and the list of approved expenses are set by the South Carolina Department of Education and are updated each year, so check the current ESTF guidelines for your family's eligibility. If your family is approved and tutoring is a permitted expense for your award year, talk to us about how Tutero's invoicing format works with the ESTF reimbursement process. Either way, the path into Tutero is the same: tell us your child's grade and subjects, and we match a tutor within 24 hours.
