Emma was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyscalculia when she was young, and more recently with ADHD. Her mom, Jill, chose Tutero because she read that we were equipped to support children with ADHD. Emma works with the same teacher, Lori, every week. Over time they have built a real bond: with Lori, Emma is focused, gets the encouragement she needs, and never asks to skip a lesson. Lori is part of Emma’s week, not a quick fix, and Jill sees the results.
“She really likes Lori, they’ve formed a bond.”

“She never says she doesn’t want tutoring, she always wants to.”

If it is UA or PEP, yes. Families on UA or PEP pay $0 out of pocket, with nothing to pay upfront. Not sure which scholarship your child has? It is shown at the top of their EMA account.
Their teacher gets to know them. One hour, 1-on-1, working on what your child is learning right now. The teacher sees what is solid and where the gaps are, with any IEP goals in mind. Afterwards you get a written report and a plan in the parent app.
No. You tell us once. Share the IEP on your first call and its goals and accommodations go into the plan before lesson one. Your child keeps the same teacher every week, so nobody has to start over.
Straight answers from 310,000+ lessons.

Usually a gap, not ability. Most subjects build on themselves: a gap in fractions in 5th grade becomes an algebra problem in 8th grade. Most students who say they hate a subject are missing two or three specific ideas. The first lesson finds them.
A diagnosis, then a plan. One hour, 1-on-1, working through what your child is learning right now. The tutor watches how they approach a problem and maps what is solid and what is not. Afterwards a written report and a plan land in the parent app.
Confidence first, grades next. Most parents see confidence change first, then grades at the next test or report card. One lesson a week through the semester, with a check-in from your account manager.

Is tutoring good for ADHD?
Often, yes. One-on-one tutoring gives a child with ADHD short, structured work, immediate feedback and one adult keeping them on track, which is hard to get in a busy classroom. It helps with schoolwork and study habits. It isn't a treatment for ADHD and works best alongside the support your child's school and doctor provide.
How much does an ADHD tutor cost?
Tutero lessons start from US$45 an hour, the same rate at every grade. You pay after each lesson, with no contracts and no sign-up fee, so you're never locked into a package. Some families use scholarship or HSA funds to pay for lessons.
What's the difference between an ADHD tutor and an ADHD coach?
CHADD describes tutoring as teaching and guided practice in school subjects, and coaching as work on planning, organizing and managing the school day. Tutero teaches both: subject tutoring, and Study Skills & Organisation Tutoring for planners, deadlines and getting started. We don't offer ADHD coaching outside schoolwork.
Can tutoring help with focus and organization?
Yes, as skills that are taught and practiced. Lessons are built in short blocks, and teachers show your child how to break work into steps and keep track of what's due. If organization is the main problem, Study Skills & Organisation Tutoring makes it the focus of every session.
How long should a tutoring session be for a child with ADHD?
Most Tutero lessons are 60 minutes, split into short blocks with a change of activity so the hour never feels like one long sit. Tell your account manager on the first call if your child struggles with an hour, and they'll talk through the lesson length with you.
Where can I find a private tutor for my child with ADHD?
Ask about experience with ADHD as well as the subject, and whether your child will keep the same tutor. Online one-on-one lessons widen the choice beyond who lives nearby. At Tutero, an account manager matches your child with a certified teacher experienced with ADHD, and you can book in about 2 minutes online.
Written by a former special-education teacher on Tutero's Learning Support team.
A whole hour with no landmarks is where attention drifts. So lessons are planned in short pieces with a clear finish line, by the same teacher every week. The subject changes with your child's needs, math one week and an essay the next, but most hours follow this shape.
Teachers also bring your child's interests into lessons where they can. A problem about something your child cares about is easier to stay with than one about nothing in particular.
The short version, for parents comparing options.
CHADD, the national ADHD organization, draws a useful line. Tutoring is teaching and guided practice in school subjects. Academic coaching works on the skills around the work: planning, organizing and getting started. If your child struggles with the content, a tutor fits. If the content is fine but the week falls apart, our Study Skills & Organisation Tutoring teaches those skills inside real schoolwork. Many children need some of both, and one teacher can cover both.
Matching starts with a call with your account manager. They ask about your child's grade and subjects, how ADHD shows up for them at home and at school, what has and hasn't worked before, any IEP or 504 plan, and what your child is into. Your account manager then chooses a certified teacher experienced with ADHD using our matching filter for learning needs, alongside your schedule and your child's personality. Some children do best with a calm, steady teacher; others need more energy.
Before the first lesson, the teacher gets a full brief about your child and emails you to introduce themselves. If the fit isn't right after a few lessons, your account manager finds another teacher, and you don't have to start from scratch.
Tutoring helps with the schoolwork and the habits around it. It isn't a treatment for ADHD, and it won't replace what your child's doctor or school provides. What one-on-one time does well is give your child the structure a busy classroom can't: one adult, one plan, quick feedback and no one to hide behind.
How often. There's no fixed rule, and one or two lessons a week is a sensible start. Consistency matters more than volume: the same day, the same time and the same teacher turns tutoring into part of the routine rather than another fight.
What changes first. Parents often notice the mood around homework before the grades: fewer battles, more willingness to start, a child who stops dreading the subject. Grades tend to follow over a semester, not a week.
When to look further. If your child is struggling across every subject, or anxiety is the main barrier, talk to their school and doctor too. A tutor is one part of the support, not all of it.
